Can you provide a Letters of Support to help  build a strong case for funding vital infrastructure at the Arts Hub

After feedback from our hirers and broader community, we are seeking infrastructure funding through the upcoming City Of Greater Geelong Infrastructure Grant Round, to further activate the Arts Hub for the benefit of our creative and wider community.

We need your support!

Letters of support will be vital to help us submit a strong case for funding. If you value the Arts Hub and would like to see it activated to reach its potential, please email your letter of support by 15 September, 2025 to Barwon Heads Arts Council via treasurer@bhac.org.au.

Our Case for Funding

Since opening in 2022, the Barwon Heads Arts and Community Hub has quickly become a vital and vibrant gathering place for creatives, community groups, and visitors from across the Bellarine aand beyond.

The Arts Hub has 4 programmable spaces including two meeting rooms, an exhibition/performance space and large Maker’s Shed in the back garden for community arts programs.

During 2024, the Arts Hub welcomed over 9,000 visitors, with 84% of use dedicated to community and arts activity. Demand has continued to grow, with enquiries doubling in 2023 following approval of extended hours and higher density limits. To meet this demand and ensure the Arts Hub remains an inclusive and sustainable community facility, essential infrastructure upgrades are required.

This activation project will

  • install fixed exhibition and performance lighting;
  • intall built-in blinds and window coverings for shade;
  • install secure storage and external washing up facilities for community arts programs in the Maker’s Shed;
  • install a outside storage shed; and
  • improve external access with accessible paths to the Maker Shed and front meeting room.

These improvements will transform the Arts Hub into a fully equipped, flexible space for exhibitions, workshops, rehearsals, performances and community events. The upgrades directly address a gap in current community infrastructure by enabling the Arts Hub to support a broader range of users and attract repeat hirers.

BHAC is preparing this funding application as a result of  hirer and broader community feedback.

Our case for funding also aligns with COGG’s current Council Plan to invest in and strengthen creative hubs, supporting participation and connection for both residents and visitors. Historically sporting culture has dominated infrastructure grant funds and we believe its time for creative hubs to receive further investment.

With strong community backing, demonstrated financial sustainability, and a track record of delivering major events such as the Bellarine Arts Trail, this project represents a timely and cost-effective investment in the Bellarine’s creative future.
