CUBES: Exploring a Different Form of Artist Books with Patsy Bush
Artists’ Books are often created to showcase art which is interactive, portable, movable and easily shared. Many artists’ books challenge the conventional book format and become sculptural objects.
This creative workshop explores the idea of art books in the form of a cube.
Instead of a 6-page art book, cubes can present art in ways a traditionally bound book does not. It provides an intimate place to tell a story that can be stacked, displayed or nestled in a book shelf.
During the workshop participants will learn how to construct different sized cubes. The resulting cubes can be painted, used to display prints, photographs, collages or drawings.
Materials and equipment for cubes will be provided.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own images to add to the cubes
Each participant will be supplied with the following: • box board – 1000mm X 500mm (approximately) • masking tape • black gesso • white gesso • shellac • Chux • PVA • baking paper • images (Old book pages, prints, papers, acrylic paints)
Additional material and equipment include: • brushes • cutting boards • cutting knives • steel rulers • Posca pens • scissors • water containers
