‘Collaboration’

At the Barwon Heads Arts  Hub, 5 Clifford Parade

Friday March 22 will see the opening of an exhibition of paintings by local artists Alison Fincher and Pat McKenzie.  Alison lives and paints beside the Barwon River in Barwon Heads, while Pats’ studio is on a working farm in Aireys Inlet, surrounded by National Park and only minutes from the famed Great Ocean Road.

Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to view a selection of large and small works, including coastal images inspired by the Bellarine and the Great Ocean Road, as well as other rural and international subjects.  Works on display will include paintings in oils, watercolours and acrylics.

Alison paints with watercolours on both paper and canvas.  She also paints ‘wateracrylics’, where the images are built up in layered washes, creating images with a transparency reflective in style of her loose watercolours.  Pat works in all mediums, enjoying the challenges of a wide variety of genres. She likes to paint “en plein air” and travels often with her paints, using them to capture the essence of the places she visits.

Pat has been exhibiting since 2002.  Her skills have been developed over the years, resulting in many of her works now hanging in private collections in Australia and internationally, including ANL Shipping Lines, Docklands and the Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie, Anglesea.

Alison’s work is widely sought in her local Bellarine area, and she has represented Australia internationally for the past three years in the annual international watercolour exhibition ‘FabrianoinAcquarello’, held in April / May each year in Fabriano and Bologna in Italy.

Pat is past President of the Anglesea Art House for 7 years and is a member of the Victorian Artist Society and the Watercolour Society of Victoria.  She now passes on her knowledge by tutoring watercolour classes at the Geelong Art Society and the Torquay Community House.

Alison is on the committee of the Watercolour Society of Victoria, and opens her studio in Barwon Heads by appointment and for regular open studio weekends.  Alison participates in the Bellarine Arts Trail each year, with hundreds of people visiting the purpose designed exhibition and painting spaces.

Pat has been a participant of the Surf Coast Arts Trail since its beginning and recently spent 4 weeks as ‘Artist in Residence’ near Fukuoka, Japan; she will exhibit some of this work in the ‘Collaboration’ exhibition.

Both Alison & Pat are excited to be exhibiting in the Barwon Heads Arts and Community Hub and look forward to welcoming you.
